1 low heat steam iron.

BACK.

set main bed at 8 and ribber bed at 8.25

Using waste yarn cast on 136 stitches and divide between the ribber and the main bed,(i prefer 1x1 rib myself.

hang cast on comb and hang 4 weights at 3 hole intervals.

rib in waste yarn for 4 rows, turn the row counter to"000"

Add the main colour you want to knit with but make sure you have pulled about a meter of yarn out before knitting the first row......(to create a neat cast off..)

1x1 rib in main colour for 20 rows.

RESET COUNTER TO "000"

CHANGE TENSION TO 9.25

Transfer all the stitches on to main bed, change the carriage, and drop the ribber bed away from the main bed,and we are ready to go.....

stocking stitch for 110 rows,

RESET COUNTER TO "000"***"

Cast off 10 stitches on either side for the next 2 rows.

Decrease 1 stitch each side every alternate row(2 stitches in total every 2 rows)

Until 100 stitches are left,

stocking stitch the top of the back until counter reaches 75 rows.

cast off 7 stitches either side of shoulder 4 times.(78 stitches)

cast off 9 stitches on either side of shoulder 2 times(60 stitches)

Change yarn to waste yarn and knit 4 rows, cut yarn and run the item off the bed.

place back levers on main carriage to dome

place front levers on main carriage to "1"

change tension to 9.75,and place main lever on tension dial to "F"

place brush levers to 0

and away we go.......

place the punchcard reader to dot

feed the second yarn into the first position in the carriage so its at the back in the main knitting hole(this creates the contrast pattern)

place the main colour in the carriage so that it sits in the front of the carriage on the right hand side(numbered 2 not behind the tensioning bar on the carriage)

knit 2 rows

(PLEASDE TRY AND DO THIS GENTLY AS SOMETIMES IT CATCHES IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES!!!)

when knitting the fairisle pattern ALWAYS remember to place the first stitch forward so that the stitch sits over the latch

do the same for front as back to armholes.....(***)RESET ROW COUNTER TO "000"

Cast off 10 stitches on either side for the next two rows

decrease 1 stitch each side on every alt row, until 100 stitches have been left on bed

knit 4 rows.(20 rows done,MAKE A NOTE OF WHICH ROW WAS FACING YOU BEFORE THE NECK SPLIT.)

knit 49 stitches, place 52 stitches to position "D"( so that they won't knit)

decrease 1 stitch at neck edge every other row, until 23 stitches are left in the active knitting.

knit the rows to meet the length of the back(75 rows)

cast off 7 stitches(at shoulder edge) in every alternate rows twice(14 stitches off)

cast off 7 stitches(at shoulder edge) over next 2 alternate rows.

cast off remaing stitches.

Take a pair of knitting needles and slide the needle between the waste yarn and main knitting on the rib,cut the waste yarn away and unpeel them so that the main knitted peice is on the needles and the waste yarn is in the bin!!!Use the metre of yarn held back to do a knitted cast off on the bottom.to create a neat finish!!!

pick up the stitches on waste yarn from the back,so that the right side is facing you,and with right side facing you pick up stitches off the "V" neckuntil you get to the two stitches on the holder, place stitch marker, knit the 2 stitches from the holder, place marker and carry on picking up stitches on the other side.

rib for 10 rows, decreasing(knitting or purling two stitches together ) on ither side of the stitch markers so that the two stitches in the markers remain.

cast off.

stitch the shoulders together and the rib neck as well to create a complete neck line.

Pick up stitches from first 10 stitch cast off to last 10 stitch cast off and rib for 10 rows and cast off, stitch up the sides and rib,
